2013 - Market to Square: Treasure Map of Melbourne
This project was based around mapping Melbourne from the Queen Victoria Market to Federation Square. This was undertaken as a reaction to the gradual obsolescence of physical maps such as Melways that are slowly being replaced by internet based alternatives such as Google maps. We had the opportunity to work with fellow students from China. We had three days to conceive, complete and photograph the work. My project titled Melbourne Treasure Map is based on the adage of "one man's trash is another man's treasure".
Quite often I notice a large number of discarded objects when walking my pups. This is because I am constantly glancing down to monitor their behaviour. For this project I collected these discarded objects as I noticed them. I mapped their location, took them to our workplace, cut them out of paper and pinned them to a circle covered in a grid. The finished objects were placed onto a length of brown paper in the order they were found creating a linear map from the market to fed square. Images of this process and work was screened at Federation Square.
2012-Honours
In my honours year I focused on the structure of the radiolarian organism. I came to realise the work was as much about the process as it was about the organism or end product.
